The town Ötz is situated in the front of the Ötz Valley at around 820 m above sea level. Flax cultivation was of great economical importance to the community at the beginning of the 17th century but since the end of the 19th century, Ötz is mainly a tourist centre. However, the many century old buildings with their beautiful paintings remind of days gone by. The history of Ötz goes back still farther since findings indicate human settlement here already at 2.500 years ago.
